Description
The Honeywell 5870API is a wireless indoor asset protection sensor that is meant to protect a single valuable object from theft. The FBI defines burglary as a robbery in which the offender has no legal right to be in the house. Theft on the other hand is a robbery in which the offender has a legal right to be in the house (such as housekeeper, delivery person or guest.) Security systems have historically been designed to protect against burglary only. The 5870API now provides you with a wireless sensor that can protect your home from theft.
The 5870API wireless asset protection device uses patented Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) accelerometer technology which references the Earth’s gravitational field. Simply affix the 5870API detector to a high-value asset and if the object is disturbed or moved, an alarm will be triggered. The 5870API asset protection device has (3) different operating modes which you can select based on the programmed loop of the wireless zone used for the sensor. High security mode (loop 1) will trigger an alarm when the object is moved for only 1-3 seconds and should not be used when the protected asset is subject to vibrations. Standard security mode (loop 2) requires 5-8 seconds of movement before an alarm will be triggered. When using tilt mode (loop 3), the 5870API must be installed horizontally and will detect an alarm when there is more than 30° of movement. Tilt mode is great for protecting jewelry boxes or cash boxes with tops that hinge upwards. Other common applications for the 5870API wireless asset protection device are TVs, computers, projectors, paintings, antiques, safes, medical equipment, expensive tools and priceless collectibles. When programming the wireless zone type for your Honeywell 5870API, we recommend using a 24-hour zone type when used on an asset that should never be moved under normal circumstance. This will ensure an alarm is triggered even if your wireless alarm system is disarmed. If the asset may be moved sometimes, you should program the device as a perimeter zone type.
When the alarm system is disarmed, the device will trigger a chime so you know it is being moved. When the alarm system is armed it will trigger a normal alarm upon detected movement.
We do not recommend using the 5870API wireless sensor on swinging or sliding doors. The wireless asset protection device is also not intended for outdoor use as it is not watertight and will not work when temperatures drop below 14° F.
